Three very important things we pass onto our children are our microbiome, DNA and what we hold in shadow - all of which play crucial roles in our overall physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

 

Microbiome: Our human cells are out numbered 10-1 by microbes. We are all unique living eco-systems, sophisticated hosts. Microbes in our bodies determine many functions from how quickly we recover from a cold to the balancing of our blood sugar. Having healthy, beneficial bacteria and a harmonious eco-system are crucial for a healthy body.

DNA: Scientists and doctors are finding out how our thoughts and emotions, the food and drink we consume, the traumatic events in our lives, our sleeping patters and stress levels, change the way our DNA is expressed. We have the power to turn most our genes on and off just by paying attention to the way we live. 

What We Hold in Shadow: The more we have in shadow, the more our children have to hold in shadow. The more we work on ourselves, the less we transfer onto our children. Kids don’t learn from what we tell them, they learn from who we are and what they live. The goal isn’t to change ourselves and become “perfect” human beings, but to be able to access those parts in ourselves that we want to model for our children.
